Filmed during Great Lent, Great and Holy Week, and the joyous celebration of Pascha in 2025, “The Light of Bulgaria” combines historical research, firsthand interviews, and footage from across Bulgaria to tell a story largely unknown outside that country. Although the Old Calendar Orthodox Church of Bulgaria finally obtained legal registration after many years of efforts, recent legislative changes supported by the Patriarchate of Bulgaria have once again placed its future in jeopardy. As renewed legal efforts seek to dissolve the Church, this documentary offers an opportunity to understand both the history that led to this moment and the Faithful who continue to endure opposition.
